No more roads, yes more clean energy jobs
Hi! I'm a little late today, and I'll blame it on my recent travel woes. Delays and running through the airport to catch a connection isn't my favorite thing to do, but at least we caught our flight in time and got rows to ourselves π€·ββοΈ.
Enjoy some climate positivity and have a great weekend!
It was a great week, and here's why...
Wales says nope to all major road-building projects!
"We will not get to net zero unless we stop doing the same thing over and over" - Wales Deputy Climate Change Minister Lee Waters.
Lee is right. If we build more roads, more cars will follow, and more emissions will follow that. Big shout out to Wales for taking this first-ever action against single-passenger travel and pushing aggressively toward public transit!
Every state is getting thousands of clean energy jobs!
What do you want to be when you grow up? Now more than ever before, it may be a clean energy worker. From 2,000 new jobs in Oklahoma to 140,000 new jobs in California, each of the 48 contiguous US states is benefiting massively from the Inflation Reduction Act.
Gen Z is rejecting jobs without adequate climate plans!
As a fellow Gen Z (I just make the cut-off), this is abundantly clear: we don't want to work for companies that don't make the planet a priority. I rarely buy or engage with any company that isn't focused on sustainability, and I'm not a rare circumstance. 1/3 of people polled have rejected a job offer because of inadequate green credentials, and 92% want strong values and purpose at their jobs.

Let's take some climate action...
π Read it: I just finished Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures and it was truly fascinating. Fungi are everywhere and without them, virtually no life on Earth would exist. They may hold a big key to combatting climate change as well. Check out this book and change everything you know about mushrooms, truffles, yeast, and more.
π§βπ³ Make it: You know that jar of coconut milk that you only used half of? Turn it into dairy-free coconut ice creamπ
β Do it: Take 15 seconds to make your voice heard and tell Biden to stop Willow (an environmentally catastrophic $8 billion proposal from Big Oil in the Alaskan wilderness). I've signed and shared, and so should you!
